I reread the book recently and was really bowled over by how it was a pretty solid book. Obviously this was when AMM was writing all the books, and it shows. I love the stuff with Kristy's family, and her being an immature brat AND GETTING CALLED OUT ON IT. Oh man!

Have you read the graphic novel adaptation? LOVE IT.

I have such a hard time reading this book because it reminds me of a 153-page chapter two.

I think this is a good book overall. It *is* kind of strange reading the fledgeling books in the series when everything was still developing. I can definitely relate to you though - as a kid the "idea" of reading BSC books was so exciting! I always was particularly excited to read about boyfriend-related ones lol because it sounded so grownup.

"I think that KGI is probably the most realistic book of the entire series, and I think we lose some of the Thomas family closeness later on."

Definitely agree, especially re. the Thomas family. Kristy's Portrait Collection tries hard, but it's not the same as Kristy's Great Idea.
